The experience

Day 1 starts before dawn. Hotel pickup runs between 4:30 and 5:00 am, and you'll be standing at Angkor Wat as the sun rises over the largest temple in the world. The guide walks you through the whole building over about 90 minutes, then breakfast follows at a local family restaurant in the village. After the market, you move to Pre Rup (the largest brick Hindu temple in the park), then into Ta Prohm, the jungle temple left overgrown with massive tree roots. The afternoon takes you through the Victory Gate into Bayon, where over 200 Buddha faces are carved into the towers. You're back at your hotel by evening.

Day 2 begins at 8:00 am after breakfast at your hotel. The morning explores the countryside and Preah Khan, a major Buddhist temple, then Neak Pean (an artificial island temple built during King Jayavarman VII's reign), and Ta Som, a small 12th-century structure. Lunch happens at a local restaurant. The afternoon drive takes you to Banteay Srei, a smaller sandstone temple with the finest carved reliefs in Cambodia, and then to the Cambodian Landmine Museum if you choose to add it. The guide brings you back to Siem Reap by late afternoon.

Transportation is air-conditioned minivan or minibus throughout. Your guide speaks English and is with you both days. Breakfast on Day 1 and lunch on Day 2 are included. Water and towels come with you. Knees and shoulders must be covered at all temples. This is a dress code requirement, not a suggestion. If you're vegetarian, let the operator know in advance and they'll adjust the meals.
