The experience
The day starts before sunrise at Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world and the centerpiece of the Angkor complex. From there, the route moves north through countryside and local villages to Banteay Srei, a smaller temple known for its intricate carvings. The drive itself is part of the experience: a window into rural Cambodia between the major sites.
After lunch, the tour heads to Ta Prohm, the jungle-clad temple where massive tree roots have wound around and through the surviving stonework for centuries. The sight of those tentacle-like roots slowly strangling the structure is what makes Ta Prohm distinct from the other temples on the itinerary. From there, the group moves to Angkor Thom's victory gate and the Bayon temple before heading back to the hotel.
The full day runs 8 to 9 hours. An air-conditioned vehicle keeps the heat manageable between sites, and your guide speaks English throughout. Bottled water is provided, though you'll arrange lunch separately at a break in the schedule.
