The experience

The tour starts before dawn at Angkor Wat, where you watch the sun rise over the temple's towers and see the stone gradually shift from grey to gold. After sunrise you move through Angkor Thom's South Gate and into Bayon Temple, where the carved stone faces dominate the skyline, then walk through Ta Prohm where tree roots have split the walls and the jungle has reclaimed the structure.

Day two takes you to Banteay Srei, built in pink sandstone with carvings so fine they look almost miniature. You then visit three temples most visitors skip: Preah Khan, Neak Pean (a small temple on an island in a lake), and Pre Rup, a pyramid-shaped temple with views across the countryside. The day ends at Phnom Bakheng for sunset.

The final day moves beyond the main temple circuit to Bakong and Preah Ko, then out to Kampong Phluk floating village where you see stilt houses and the lake itself.
