The experience
Two days lets you see the temples without rushing through them. Day one takes you to Banteay Srei, a small temple carved from pink sandstone with finely detailed sculptures, then moves through Preah Khan's atmospheric stone structures and the man-made island temple of Neak Pean. You reach Pre Rup, a Hindu temple built like a pyramid, before climbing Phnom Bakheng mountain for the sunset.
Day two starts before dawn at Angkor Wat itself, the largest and best-preserved temple in the complex. After exploring its layout and proportions in the morning light, you enter Angkor Thom through the South Gate, where a causeway lined with statues of gods and demons leads to the Bayon Temple, known for its massive stone faces. You continue to the Terrace of the Elephants and the Leper King Terrace, then finish at Ta Prohm, the atmospheric temple where 2,740 monks once lived and where tree roots now grip the stone.
As a private tour, you move at your own pace and get individualized attention from your guide rather than following a group schedule. Your driver handles all transport in an air-conditioned vehicle, and bottled water is provided each day.
