The experience
The tour runs four hours and moves through the city's main landmarks without requiring you to arrange transport. You start with the Royal Regalia Museum in the heart of the capital, where the collection includes the Sultan's encrusted crown and other regalia tied to Brunei's monarchy. From there you drive to Istana Nurul Iman for a photo stop. The palace holds the record as the world's largest residential palace, set against lush hills and the Brunei River winding below it.
The route then takes in the Malay Technology Museum, which displays the lifestyles and traditions of Malay and ethnic tribes across Brunei, and the Omar Ali Saiffudien Mosque, counted among the most beautiful in Southeast Asia. At Kampong Ayer, the largest water village in the world, you see the traditional stilt houses built on the river that earned it the nickname "Venice of the East." The final stop is Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, the largest mosque in Brunei, with its distinctive golden domes. It was built in honor of the current Sultan and serves as one of the country's two national mosques.
Shoes come off before entering the Royal Regalia Museum and any mosque on the itinerary. Women are required to wear a black coat (provided by the mosque) before entering a mosque. No photographs are allowed inside mosques or the Brunei Museum. The guide is a live professional speaker in English, and the vehicle is air-conditioned. A minimum of two people per booking is required.
