The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Manaus hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle stocked with mineral water. The drive north to Presidente Figueiredo takes you into rainforest landscape dotted with over 100 waterfalls across the region: ancient rock formations visible along the way hint at the Amazon's prehistoric past. Your guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese and leads the entire route.
Asframa Waterfall is the first stop: a cascade surrounded by dense forest where you get about 30 minutes to swim and photograph the falls. From there you head deeper into the rainforest on an easy walking trail to Iracema Falls, a private complex set among stunning rock formations and thick vegetation. You can swim in the waterfall pool or stay dry and take photos. The choice is yours. In the same area, Sucuriju Waterfall is also accessible (dry season from August through February only, when water levels drop enough to reveal it safely). After the morning waterfalls, you stop at a local restaurant for lunch: grilled Amazonian fish, freshly prepared and included in the price. Drinks are available to buy separately.
The afternoon takes you to Crystal Lake, where the water is so clear you can see straight through it, and the Red River, named for the high concentration of organic material that stains the water reddish-brown. Both sit in the same area and offer swimming and photography. You leave around 3:00–3:30 PM and arrive back at your hotel between 5:00 and 6:00 PM.
