From there, the 50-minute trek around Morro Dois Irmãos unfolds in layers: first the forest closes in, then the view opens, and suddenly you're looking down at Rocinha, Brazil's largest favela, spread across the hillside like a city unto itself. You can see Christ the Redeemer from up here, and Sugarloaf Mountain, and the neighborhoods of São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca stretching toward the ocean.

Instead of heading straight back to your hotel, you stop at Mirante do Avraão — a hostel perched at the top of Vidigal with its own view — and then walk through the actual neighborhood with your guide.
