The experience
The day starts with pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. Your accredited guide meets you and drives the group to AquaRio, the largest marine aquarium in Latin America. Inside, you walk through tanks holding sharks, stingrays, rays and countless other marine species, plus a Surf Museum. The scale of the place, and the sheer number of fish, is what makes it different from smaller city aquariums.
After AquaRio, the tour moves through the port area. You see Praça Mauá, a 25,000-square-meter waterfront plaza that borders Guanabara Bay after its renovation, and the Mural Etnias: a 15-meter-high, 170-meter-long mural. The Museum of Tomorrow sits next to Praça Mauá. If you add that ticket at checkout, you'll walk through its exterior and can enter if time allows. The guide points out Edifício Joseph Gire, known locally as "The Night," a landmark building in the port district.
The Rio Star Ferris Wheel, 88 meters high, is an optional add-on. If you book it, you ride up for views over the city and the bay.
