The experience
The first day starts at 8 a.m. from Lençóis and covers ground fast. A five-minute walk leads to Mucugezinho, a valley of small waterfalls and natural pools ideal for swimming. From there the car takes you inland to Iraquara, where Gruta da Fumacinha opens up for 40 minutes of walking through stalactites, stalagmites and rare speleothems. Lunch follows at a typical country restaurant, then you drive to Fazenda Pratinha: a working farm with a lake of clear water where you can swim, and the Blue Grotto, which glows blue when sunlight hits it. The farm also offers optional activities like floating inside the Pratinha cave, zip-lining and horseback riding, which you can arrange on site. The day ends climbing Morro do Pai Inácio to watch the sunset over the region's largest plateaus.
Day 2 requires no vehicle. You leave the agency on foot with the guide and walk a half-day trail that stays inside Lençóis. The route strings together five stops: Caldeirões do Serrano, a series of small natural pools formed by colored rocks; the Hall of Sands, a rocky maze with different-colored sand; Cachoeirinha, a waterfall with a clear pool good for meditation; Primavera waterfall with its own swimming pool; and finally the Lençóis Viewpoint, where you see the city and surrounding mountains. The entire trail takes four hours.
The tour is collective, meaning you'll travel with other booked guests. A live guide leads in either English or Portuguese. Lunch on Day 1 is included. On Day 2 you'll need to bring your own snack. The operator maintains hygiene and social distance protocols in the vehicles and during the hike.
