Step-by-step itinerary
Visit Itacimirim and Imbassaí beaches
- Depart from Salvador hotels
- Arrive at Itacimirim Beach

- Travel to Imbassaí Beach
- Cross river by chalana or walk
- Explore beach, village, and local culture
The experience
You start from your Salvador hotel and travel north on the Green Line, the coastal highway that runs from Salvador toward Aracaju. The route itself is the point: this stretch of the Bahian coast holds some of the most sought-after beaches in the northeast, and the drive shows why. The first stop is Itacimirim, a beach built around tranquility and preserved nature. At low tide, natural swimming pools form in the rocks and sand, turning the shoreline into a series of shallow, protected basins. The water stays clear, and the beach carries a Blue Flag seal. Coconut palms line the sand. If you want to swim, wade, or simply sit in the shade, the setup here is built for that.
From Itacimirim you move on to Imbassaí, where the dynamic shifts. Here a river meets the sea, and the beach splits the difference: you can swim in fresh water or salt water, depending on where you wade in. The setting is ringed by dunes and native vegetation, and the village behind the beach runs to craft shops, cajueiro trees, and rustic bars and restaurants built right at the river's edge. Getting to the water is part of the day. You can cross the river by chalana (a small ferry, the crossing fee is separate) or walk through the rocks and dunes on foot. The beach itself reflects the local culture in a way the guidebooks call authentic, which here means the restaurants serve what people actually eat.
The tour runs eight to ten hours from hotel to hotel. You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with a guide who speaks Portuguese. The return journey follows the same Green Line back to Salvador. Meals and entrance fees to any optional attractions are separate. Bring cash if you plan to cross the river by chalana or eat at the riverside restaurants.
