The experience

The drive from São Paulo takes about two and a half hours, with pickup at your hotel starting at 8 am. Once in Campos do Jordão, the five-hour city tour begins at the City Portal, a photo stop that frames the town's entrance. From there the guide leads you through the neighborhoods that give the place its Swiss character: European-style winter houses and hotels line the streets, and the architecture shifts as you move between districts. Alto da Boa Vista and Vila Inglesa show the older resort aesthetic, while Alto Capivari and the central Vila Capivari neighborhood hold shops, galleries and the busier commercial core.

Two stops anchor the morning. The Boa Vista Palace, the Governor of São Paulo's winter residence, opens for a monitored visit where you see the building's architecture and the art and historical pieces held inside. Later, the Artisan Chocolate Factory offers tastings of chocolates, cheeses, antipasti, wines, liqueurs and cachaças: a break in the tour where you can linger over local flavors. Between these, the route passes Ducha de Prata, a dammed waterfall with a handicrafts fair and knitwear vendors, and the Chinese Belvedere Viewpoint, where you stop to photograph the Mantiqueira Mountains that frame the town.

The tour ends in Vila Capivari, the city center, where you have free time for lunch and the afternoon to wander the shops and streets on your own before the drive back to São Paulo. Your guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese, and the air-conditioned vehicle includes transport insurance. All entry fees and taxes are covered in the price.

Is this one for you?The five-hour city tour and free afternoon in Vila Capivari suit travelers who want to see the main landmarks and neighborhoods without a rigid schedule for the second half of the day. If you prefer a fully guided experience with every stop planned, a longer escorted tour would fit better. If you want to move at your own pace from the start, a self-guided visit or rental car gives you more flexibility.
