The experience
You start earlier than most operators on the island, which means the reefs are still crowded with fish and the stingrays haven't been handled repeatedly by the time you enter the water. Mexico Rocks comes first: an hour of snorkeling over coral formations where small colorful fish school around you, and larger groupers and snappers move through the deeper channels. The coral itself is the draw here: formations that most reef snorkeling in the region doesn't reach.
After Mexico Rocks, you head to Stingray City, where the sandy bottom and shallow water let you stand and watch stingrays glide past, along with nurse sharks and other reef creatures that use the area as a nursery. You can swim freely here instead of staying tethered to a single reef wall. The whole site has a different character from the first stop: less vertical coral, more open water and sand, and the animals move closer because the bottom is firm enough to stand on.
The boat supplies quality snorkeling equipment, bottled and pouch water, soda and fresh fruit. Your guide speaks English and stays with the group throughout. The three-hour window is tight enough that you're back by early afternoon, which works if you have other plans or just want a focused morning on the water.
