The Experience
You meet at Palapa Bar dock 15 minutes before departure and spend the first 1 hour 15 minutes sailing north along the coast on comfortable cushions, with fresh fruit, homemade meat-pies, drinks and music. The boat then reaches Mexico Rocks, a protected marine reserve since 2015 where huge coral heads scatter across the seafloor. The snorkeling there centers on the coral formations and the marine life they shelter — the spot got its name from the way the coral heads look like a Mexican sombrero from above.
After Mexico Rocks, the boat travels 15 minutes to a shallow natural pool that only this tour visits. The operator's shallow draft — just 2 feet — lets the boat anchor where others cannot go, and the captain knows the spots where nobody else stops. The water here is calm and warm, rarely deeper than waist-high, which makes it safe for non-swimmers and children. The crew prepares the famous Belizean buffet onboard while you float and rest: stewed chicken, the captain's secret recipe BBQ fish, rice and beans, tortillas, coleslaw, pico de gallo and fried sweet plantain. The open bar runs all day with local rum, vodka and gin from Cuello's Distillery, plus soft drinks and juices — try the rum punch or the house special "panty rippers".
On the return south to San Pedro, the boat makes a second snorkel stop at Tres Cocos, a small reef area where large fish gather to feed. The ride back takes 1 hour 15 minutes. Snorkel gear is provided, and the boat has a restroom onboard. The guide speaks English and Spanish.

What is Mexico Rocks and why is it a good snorkel spot?
Mexico Rocks is a marine reserve with huge coral heads scattered across the seafloor that look like a Mexican sombrero. It became part of the protected Hol Chan Marine Reserve in 2015, which has let the coral formations flourish and attracted rich marine life. It's the first snorkel stop on the tour.
Can I snorkel if I'm not a strong swimmer?
Yes. The natural pool stop is shallow and calm, rarely deeper than waist-high, and works well for non-swimmers and children from age 4. Snorkel gear is included, and the crew is there while you're in the water.
What food and drinks are included in the tour?
Fresh fruit and homemade Belizean meat-pies are served during the morning sail. At the natural pool, the crew prepares a full Belizean buffet onboard: stewed chicken, the captain's secret recipe BBQ fish, rice and beans, tortillas, coleslaw, pico de gallo and fried sweet plantain. An open bar with local rum, vodka, gin, soft drinks and juices runs all day.
Where do we meet and how do I get to the boat?
You meet at Palapa Bar dock in San Pedro 15 minutes before departure. Pickup from your hotel is not included, but public transportation options are available nearby.
How long is the boat ride to the first snorkel spot?
The sail from Palapa Bar dock to Mexico Rocks takes 1 hour 15 minutes. You travel on comfortable cushions with drinks and music along the way.
Is the natural pool stop unique to this tour?
Yes. The boat's shallow draft of 2 feet lets it anchor in water where other boats cannot go, and the captain knows exclusive spots. The natural pool is an exclusive stop that only this tour makes, and it's where lunch is served onboard.
