The experience

You meet your guide Andy McSweeney at Burg Square before 10am, when the light is clean and the crowds have not yet filled the frame. The route moves through the historical heart of Brugge: Market Square, the smallest bridge in the city, Saint John's Hospital (one of Europe's oldest and most preserved), and the Princely Beguinage, each stop chosen for its visual interest and the angle of the sun at that hour. This is not a sightseeing tour where you listen and move on. You stop to compose shots, and your guide points out the framing that works, the details that tell the story, and the camera settings that capture what you see.

The workshop part happens as you walk. Your guide shows you sample photos taken on location to demonstrate composition and light, then you shoot the same scene your way. He explains the facts of Brugge (the layers of history from medieval times to now) not as a lecture but as the visual story that makes each corner worth photographing. You get expert tips on your camera's settings, how to use the light that is actually there, and how to see the city the way a photographer does, not the way a postcard does.

The booking includes up to four guests of your choice. If your group is larger, let the operator know. The guide speaks English, French, German or Dutch. If you do not have a camera, you can rent one. A tripod is available on request. The tour wraps with extra goodies (a small gift or bonus), and you leave with the photos you took and the eye you learned to use.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English, French, German and Dutch.

What time does the Brugge photo tour start, and why is an early start recommended?

The tour starts between 9 and 10am. An early start beats the crowds and gives you the best light for photography, when the squares are still clear and the sun is at the angle that makes the medieval architecture read best on camera.

What is included in the price, and what costs extra?

The price covers the 3-hour tour, expert photo instruction, sample photos shown on location, and stories of Brugge's history. Camera rental and tripod rental are available for an additional fee if you need them.

How many people can join one booking, and can I bring a larger group?

One booking includes up to four guests of your choice. If your group is larger, contact the operator to arrange it.

Which squares and sites do you visit on this tour?

You start at Burg Square, then move to Market Square (the central square of Brugge), cross the smallest bridge in the city, visit Saint John's Hospital (one of Europe's oldest and most preserved), and end at the Princely Beguinage, described as a timeless corner of the city.

Is the tour accessible if I use a wheelchair or have mobility concerns?

Yes. All areas and surfaces on the route are wheelchair accessible, and public transportation options are available nearby if you need them. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller.
