The experience
Bruges draws 4 million visitors a year, and the crowds move fastest when you know where to look. This tour starts at Minnewater, the old port lake whose name carries two meanings ("common water" and "love water"), and moves through the medieval streets with a guide who explains what you're actually seeing: how to spot original medieval houses, which families held power in which centuries, how the health system worked 500 years ago. You'll stand in front of the Church of Our Lady and hear about the Michelangelo sculpture inside; you'll cross the Tanners' Square where the old trade guilds clustered; you'll find the bridge with the legend your guide will tell you, and have time to photograph it.
The Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde sits at the heart of the route: a UNESCO World Heritage complex that feels anchored in the Middle Ages, surrounded by quiet courtyards. From there, the walk moves to Burg Square, the political center of the city, where buildings from more than a thousand years of history stand side by side. At one of the few certified artisan chocolate shops, you'll taste handmade Bruges chocolate and learn how to tell it from industrial versions. Your guide will also point you toward the best places to eat once the tour ends.
Groups larger than 24 people use headphones (available for €1 from the guide). Smaller groups walk and listen directly. The route and timing can shift based on what your guide thinks works best for the group that day, though the tour generally runs about 2 to 2.5 hours. Public transportation stops are nearby if you need them.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (12 to 17 years); Child (4 to 11 years); Infant (under 4): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is Minnewater and why does the tour start there?
Minnewater is the old port lake of Bruges, and its name comes from two Dutch words: minne (meaning both "common" and "love") and water. It was the community waters where the city's port once operated, deeply tied to daily medieval life, so it sets the context for everything you'll see on the walk.
Will I see the Michelangelo sculpture inside the Church of Our Lady?
The Church of Our Lady is viewed from the outside, and your guide will explain details about the white marble sculpture of the Virgin and Child by Michelangelo that is inside, but entry to the church itself is not part of this tour.
Is food included, or will I need to find lunch on my own?
Meals are not included in the tour, but your guide will recommend great places to eat in Bruges and point you toward them when the walk ends.
How long does the tour actually take?
The tour generally lasts around 2 to 2.5 hours, though the exact timing can vary depending on what your guide thinks works best for your group and how long you spend at photo stops.
What makes the Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde special?
The Beguinage is one of Bruges' most representative medieval complexes, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the tour includes it as a prelude to the rest of the city: a place of quiet courtyards that feels suspended in the Middle Ages.
