The Experience

Your guide picks you up from your Manama hotel and drives you through the day's 12 stops in an air-conditioned vehicle. The route moves between old and new Bahrain—starting with the Al Fateh Grand Mosque (outside photo stop), then the Bahrain National Museum to walk through 4,000 years of Dilmun civilization and local history, then Bahrain Bay's modern skyline. You'll see Bahrain Fort, the region's largest archaeological site, before heading into the old Manama Souk to walk past spice shops and the Bahrain Gate.

Lunch happens at a traditional Bahraini restaurant in the souk, where you eat the day's only sit-down meal. After, the tour moves south and west—the Formula One circuit (where you step onto the main grandstand), a photo stop at the first oil well in the Gulf region, then the Tree of Life, a 440-year-old tree standing alone in the desert 35 kilometers south of Manama. You'll stop at the Royal Burial Mounds at Al A'ali village and watch pottery makers work in a traditional workshop, a craft unchanged since Dilmun times. The route also passes through Awali village (home of Bahrain's national oil company) and West Riffa, the political capital, and ends at the Gulf region's newest Roman Catholic Church before returning to your hotel.

The guide speaks English or Arabic and carries WiFi access if you ask. Bottled water comes with you in the car. Children from age 2 are welcome, and infants can travel in a pram or stroller. Note that the mosque closes Fridays and public holidays, the museum closes Tuesdays, and the Formula One circuit closes during race events and private functions. During Ramadan, restaurants close during the day, so lunch is not served that month.

Top questions

What's inside the Bahrain National Museum?

The Bahrain National Museum holds the region's first museum collection, tracing Dilmun civilization and Bahrain's history, tradition and culture back more than 4,000 years. You'll walk through the exhibits during the tour's inside visit.

Can I visit the Al Fateh Grand Mosque on any day?

The Al Fateh Grand Mosque closes on Fridays and public holidays, so your tour includes an outside photo stop only on those days. Inside visits happen on other days of the week.

Is the Tree of Life worth the drive south?

The Tree of Life is a 440-year-old tree standing alone in the middle of the hot, dry desert 35 kilometers south of Manama—a photo stop that marks one of the tour's most striking contrasts to the city landmarks earlier in the day.

Do I get to stand on the Formula One circuit?

Yes, the tour includes a stop at Bahrain International Formula One circuit where you step onto the main grandstand and visit the welcome center. The circuit closes during F1 race events and private functions.

What kind of lunch is included?
