The experience
Deadman's Reef sits just off the shore at Paradise Cove, a laid-back beach on western Grand Bahama. The reef system combines natural coral with the largest contiguous man-made reef ball reef in the Bahamas, which means the fish populations are dense and varied. Angelfish, sea turtles, damselfish, parrotfish, squirrelfish and snapper are regular residents. All snorkel gear is available on site and professionally fitted to each person, so you're not renting equipment that doesn't match your face or comfort level.
The snorkel-only option gets you in the water for the afternoon. If you book the full day pass, you stay longer and add kayaking, volleyball, paddleboards and a lounge chair on the sand. Food and drinks come from the Red Bar. The day pass includes lunch and a beverage, while the snorkel-only option includes one drink. A small gift shop is on site if you want to pick up a souvenir. Round-trip transport departs from your hotel or cruise ship port, depending on which option you choose.
The beach itself avoids the typical vendor crowds and hassle of busier spots on the island. The water is calm enough for families with children from age 3 onward, and the staff is trained to help anyone new to snorkeling get comfortable with the gear. The whole experience runs about four hours from pickup to drop-off.
