Step-by-step itinerary

Tour and wine pairing experience

  • Walk through wine making process
  • Discuss vineyard and cellar details
  • Taste 6 wines with local produce
  • Learn about food and wine pairing

The experience

The tour starts in the vineyard and cellar, where the guide walks you through how Cape Mentelle makes its wines: what happens in the vineyard, what happens in the cellar, and what makes these particular wines distinct. You'll see the process before you taste it, so the pairings make sense when you get to them.

Then you move into the barrel cellar for the tasting itself. Six wines come out matched to a selection of local produce (some pairings obvious, some more contrasting), and the guide talks through why each one works. You taste as you go, learning how flavors interact and why certain combinations land better than others. The whole experience is two hours, and it's adults only. The group maxes out at ten people, so it stays intimate.

Closed-toe flat shoes are required, and the tour runs in all weather, so dress for the conditions. Let the operator know about any food allergies when you book.
