The experience
You start at Mangel Halto Beach, where the guide fits you with a life vest and shows you the kayak. The coastline here stays shallow and calm enough for paddling, and the reef sits close enough to reach in the opening stretch. Your guide explains what you're paddling toward (the corals, the fish species, the layout of the area) as you move along the water.
At the reef, you leave the kayak and snorkel. The guide points out what lives there and what to look for in the coral. After snorkeling, you paddle to Spanish Lagoon, where mangroves line the water and the ecosystem shifts. You explore by kayak through the mangrove channels, then paddle back to Mangel Halto Beach where you started. The whole outing runs two hours.
Kayaking reaches places that speedboats and larger tour boats can't access: the shallow reefs, the mangrove edges, the quiet stretches of coastline. It's also gentler on the marine environment than motorized water sports. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Dutch, and children from age 15 are welcome.

What's the water like at Mangel Halto where we start kayaking?
Mangel Halto Beach has calm, shallow water along the coastline, which is why kayaking works well there. The reef sits close enough to paddle to in the opening part of the outing, and the mangroves of Spanish Lagoon stay protected and navigable by kayak.
Do I need to know how to kayak before I book?
No prior kayaking experience is required. The guide handles instruction and leads the group. You do need at least a moderate level of physical fitness, since you're paddling for the full two hours and also snorkeling at the reef.
What marine life will I see while snorkeling?
The reef at Mangel Halto holds corals and reef fish. The guide explains what you're looking at and points out the different species. The mangroves of Spanish Lagoon support a different ecosystem, which you see from the kayak as you paddle through.
