A 2-hour guided horseback ride through Aruba's countryside takes you past cacti to a large rock formation you can climb, along the rough northeast coast to a small beach, and up a hill to watch the sunset. The ride includes a local guide in English, Spanish or Dutch; hotel or cruise port pickup and drop-off; and a helmet. All skill levels are welcome, and galloping is not allowed.

The experience

The ranch sits five minutes from most hotels in the Palm Beach area. Your driver picks you up from your hotel or cruise port (about 10 minutes from the ranch) and brings you to the property, where you'll complete waivers and get mounted with instructions from your guide. The guide checks how well you and the group control your horses and sets the pace accordingly, so beginners and experienced riders move together comfortably.

From there you ride through the typical Aruban countryside, the 'Cunucu', winding toward the northeast coast. The route passes through cacti country to a big rock formation. If you're able to climb, you can get on top for a wide view. The ride continues to the rugged coastline where waves crash onto rocky shores, and you'll visit a small beach along the way. The guide then takes the group up a hill to watch the sunset, which offers 360-degree views across the island. Bring a camera. This is the moment most riders want to capture.

After the ride, you return to the ranch bar where cold drinks are available for purchase before the driver takes you back to your hotel, cruise port, or the Palm Beach area.

The rock formation is a large landmark along the route. If you're able to climb, you can get on top to enjoy a wide view of the countryside. Climbing is optional, and the guide will let you know what's involved when you reach it.

How long is the ride, and what does the 2 hours include?

The ride is 2 hours total. It covers the countryside, the rock formation, the northeast coast and small beach, and the sunset viewing from the hilltop, plus time at the ranch for waivers and mounting before you start.

Is pickup from my hotel included?

Yes. Free round-trip transportation is included from Palm Beach and Eagle Beach area hotels, condos in the Tierra del Sol area, the cruise ship terminal, and Renaissance hotels. Pickup happens 45 to 20 minutes before the ride departs. Call or email to confirm your exact pickup time and location.

What should I bring, and what's provided?

Bring a camera for the sunset and the coastal views. A helmet is provided. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dusty and closed-toe shoes. Cold drinks are available for purchase at the ranch bar after the ride. Water is not included.

Is there a weight limit or age requirement?

The maximum weight limit is 200 pounds. Children ages 6 and up can ride independently. Children under 5 can ride with a parent for free. The ride is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health, spinal injuries, or pregnancy.
