The Experience

Ever wondered what it feels like to drive a UTV across Aruba’s wild north coast? I didn’t, honestly — not until we showed up at the office (Orguyo 60) and our guide, Miguel, handed me the keys. There was this dusty smell in the air, sun already high at 9am, and he just grinned while explaining the controls. My hands were kind of shaky but in that good way. We set off in a little convoy, engines rumbling louder than I expected.

First stop: Casibari Rock Formation. It’s bigger than it looks in photos — huge boulders stacked like someone playing with giants’ marbles. The rocks felt warm under my palms. Miguel pointed out faded drawings from who-knows-how-long-ago (he said prehistoric), and for a second everyone got quiet, just listening to the wind. Then back into the UTVs for more bouncing over sand and rock — I swear my teeth were chattering half the time but it was fun.

We drove by Bushiribana Gold Ruins and Baby Bridge (Miguel called it “Wariruri,” which I probably pronounced wrong). The main event though was Natural Bridge — or what’s left of it after it collapsed years ago. Still, standing there with sea spray in my face and that salty smell all around felt kind of epic. Alto Vista Chapel was next; small but bright yellow against all that desert scrub. Some locals were lighting candles inside and I didn’t want to intrude so I just watched from outside for a minute.

The last bit was California Lighthouse (we didn’t go up, just looked), then finally Tres Trapi beach. Water so clear you could see every pebble on the bottom — cold too, after all that dust and heat. I still think about that swim sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic back home. Anyway, if you’re up for a day trip from Oranjestad or nearby hotels with some bumps, laughs, local stories and a lot of sun — this is it.

What’s included

Your day includes hotel or port pickup and drop-off from Oranjestad or nearby areas, all necessary safety briefings at the main office before you drive your own UTV along Aruba’s north coast with a professional guide leading each stop.
