The Experience
You arrive at the rental location and get on your own ATV: no guide dictating the itinerary, no group waiting for you to catch up. The operator marks six major stops in an offline GPS app: Mangel Halto beach, a local favorite with shallow water; Baby Beach for snorkeling in crystal-clear shallows; the Colorado lighthouse at the island's southern tip, where you can see Venezuela on clear days; Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins on the northern coast, abandoned since Aruba's nineteenth-century gold rush; Alto Vista Chapel, built in 1952 on the site of the original 1750 church, reached by a winding road lined with white crosses; and California Lighthouse at the northwestern tip, restored in 2016, offering views of sandy beaches and rocky shorelines. The Tera Cora trail between California Lighthouse and Alto Vista Chapel is off limits.
Unguided means you set the clock. Stay an hour at Baby Beach if the snorkeling pulls you in, or fifteen minutes if you've seen enough. Skip a site entirely if something else catches your attention. A private guide is available at additional cost and rides alongside you, speaking English or Spanish, if you want someone who knows the island's history and can point out details you'd miss alone. Either way, you're on the ATV the whole time, not watching someone else ride, not sitting in a van.
The 8-hour window is real time in the saddle and at the sites, not a shuttle schedule. Fuel for the day runs $35. A $500 security deposit holds on your credit card and releases in 3 to 5 business days. You need to be 25 or older to drive and fit enough for moderate physical activity. The ATV is not suitable if you have spinal injuries or cardiovascular concerns, and it's not recommended for pregnant travelers.

Is this one for you?If you're staying in Oranjestad without a car, pickup is included, so you don't need to arrange transport to the rental location. Unguided riding suits riders who want to linger at snorkeling spots or skip ahead to the next site without waiting for a group. A private guide works better if you want someone to explain what you're seeing and navigate the island's back roads.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can I stop and swim at Baby Beach or Mangel Halto if I want to spend time in the water?
Yes. Baby Beach has shallow snorkeling areas and is one of the marked stops. Mangel Halto is a local favorite also marked on your GPS. On an unguided rental, you stay as long as you want at each location.
What is the California Lighthouse actually like when I get there?
The California Lighthouse is a stone structure built in 1910 on a high seaside elevation near Aruba's northwestern tip. It's free to view and photograph, though climbing to the top costs extra. The site offers views of the western coastline with sandy beaches, dunes and rocky coral shorelines, and is known for sunset views.
Do I need a guide to find my way around, or can I navigate on my own?
The operator provides an offline GPS app that marks all the recommended stops, so you can navigate without a guide. A private guide is optional and available at additional cost if you want someone to ride with you and explain the island's history and landmarks.
What happens if I want to add a private guide after I've already booked the unguided rental?
Private guided tours are available at an additional cost. Call the operator directly to arrange this and get pricing.
Is there anything I need to know about the ATV itself before I arrive?
It's a single-seat quad, so only one person rides per ATV. Fuel for 8 hours costs $35. A $500 security deposit holds on your credit card and releases in 3 to 5 business days after your rental ends. You must be at least 25 years old and have a valid driver's license.
