The Experience

You get picked up from your hotel in an air-conditioned bus and driven to five of Aruba's main sights in a single morning. The guide handles the route and the timing, so you move through the island without deciding what comes next or how long to spend at each stop. The tour starts at the Aruba Aloe Factory & Museum, where you learn about 160 years of aloe vera cultivation on the island, walk through the production process and have time to shop for products before a photo stop under a Divi Divi tree with the plantation behind you.

From there the bus takes you to the California Lighthouse, perched on the Hudishibana hill at Aruba's northwest tip. You get off to walk around and take in the 360-degree view where white sand beaches meet desert-like landscape; climbing inside the lighthouse costs extra and is not included. The next stop is Alto Vista Chapel, a small Catholic chapel on the hills above the north shore where you can walk around, enter the building and buy coconut water from a local vendor. Then you reach the Casibari Rock Formation, where man-made stairs lead up the boulders to a panoramic viewpoint, followed by time to relax in the garden below.

The final two stops are the Bushiribana gold mill ruins and the Natural Bridge nearby. At the ruins you walk around the old smelter structure; the contrast of red sand, blue sky and deep blue ocean makes for strong photographs. At the Natural Bridge site you explore the smaller bridge next to where a larger one once stood and see how the desert hills meet the rough water. The bus returns you to your hotel at the end of the four-hour tour.
