itinerary

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Aruba sightseeing and beach visit

  • Pickup from hotel or Airbnb
  • Visit Royal Aruba Aloe factory and museum
  • Explore Casibari Rock Formations
  • See California Lighthouse
  • Stop at Aruba Natural Bridge site
  • Relax at Arashi Beach for snorkeling
  • Return to hotel or Airbnb

“You ever tasted aloe straight from the plant?” our guide asked as we shuffled into the Royal Aruba Aloe factory. I hadn’t, but the smell hit me first—clean and a little sharp, like grass after rain. The tour inside was quick but full of odd facts (who knew this stuff had been grown here for over a century?). The workers moved quietly behind glass; I tried to say “dank je” to one and she grinned. It felt good to step back outside into the heat again.

The Casibari Rock Formations were next—big tan boulders stacked like some giant kid’s playground. We climbed up narrow steps carved into stone (my knees protested a bit), but at the top you could see all of Aruba stretched out flat and bright under the sun. Wind tugged at my hat and I caught someone below laughing when theirs blew off completely. Our guide pointed out tiny lizards darting between rocks. I still think about that view—how small everything looked for a minute.

The California Lighthouse stood alone on its hill, white against blue sky. There were families taking photos and a couple of locals chatting in Papiamento nearby—one waved when I tried to snap a picture without blocking anyone. After that we drove past scrubby dunes to the Natural Bridge site; it’s mostly ruins now since it collapsed years ago, but you can see where the sea just keeps working away at what’s left. The air smelled salty and wild there.

We finished at Arashi Beach (they sometimes swap for Eagle Beach if it’s busy). There was time to swim or just sit in the shade huts watching kids dig holes in that powdery sand. I tried snorkeling near the rocks—water so clear I lost track of time until someone called out “bus is leaving!” So yeah, not enough time for everything but somehow just enough too.
