The experience
Six hours gives you time to move through three distinct stops without rushing: Lake Roca, a glacial lake ringed by the Andes with accessible trails; Lapataia Bay, where the Beagle Channel opens up with forest on one side and water on the other; and a scenic viewpoint in between. The route also passes a river where birdwatching is possible. Your guide is a local naturalist fluent in English who knows the area's ecology and can adjust the day to what interests you, whether that means lingering on a particular trail, focusing on wildlife, or keeping the pace easy for younger travelers.
The park sits at the southernmost tip of South America, and the landscape reflects that: subantarctic forest, glacial water, and mountains that drop straight into the channel. Lapataia Bay is not available during winter months, but when it is open, the bay itself is the endpoint of Route 3, the southernmost highway in the world. Lake Roca sits higher up, surrounded by the Andes Range, and the trails there are graded for different fitness levels. You move between these stops by vehicle, with your guide handling the route and the timing.
Snacks and coffee or tea come with the tour. Hotel pickup is included, so you don't arrange your own transport to the park entrance. The guide speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese, so the experience can be in whichever language suits you.
