The Seven Lakes Route is the spine of this tour, and it's the reason the drive takes a full day. You leave Bariloche heading north on Route 40, and within a few hours you're moving through a landscape where the lakes themselves are the main event: water mirrors that shift with the light and the angle of the road. The route passes through Puerto Manzano, a small mountain village, then opens into the sequence of seven named lakes that make this road famous across Patagonia. Each one sits differently against the peaks and forests, so the scenery doesn't repeat even though you're traveling the same road.

San Martín de los Andes sits on the shores of Lake Lacar at the end of the route, and you'll have time to walk the city center, eat lunch at one of the local restaurants, and get a feel for the town before the return drive. The return follows the same road back to Bariloche, so you see the landscape from the opposite direction and can photograph the views you missed on the way out. The whole day runs about 10 and a half hours from hotel pickup to drop-off.
