The experience

The ride starts with a 30-minute drive from your hotel to the base of Catedral Mount, where you'll pick up your bike and begin a 2- to 3-hour medium-difficulty journey through the suburbs of Bariloche. The terrain is a mix of back roads and dirt tracks, mostly flat but with some uphill sections and one longer downhill stretch. You'll climb about 890 meters over the 25-kilometer route, passing through streams and the traditional Colonia Suiza settlement while riding under views of the surrounding mountains and the deep blue waters of Gutierrez and Moreno lakes.

Your guide is trained in safety and knows the landscape well enough to share knowledge about Patagonian nature as you ride. A support vehicle follows at certain points along the route. Midway through, you'll stop to eat the box lunch included in the tour, or on the afternoon departure, you can eat it at the start if you prefer. The ride ends at one of three points depending on your choice and how you're feeling: Lopez Bay, Colonia Suiza settlement, or Perito Moreno Lake. After that, you're driven back to your hotel.

All biking equipment comes with the tour: a mountain bike, helmet and repair tool kit. Bring comfortable clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses, a windbreaker jacket and cycling gloves. The tour is private, so timing can be adjusted to suit your pace and preferences. Weather can affect the excursion, and you'll need at least moderate fitness to handle the climbs and terrain.
