The experience
The ride starts at the post where you get ready and meet the horses: all tame and suited to riders of any experience level. Don Daniel leads you into the high Andes, where the valleys open up around you and the light shifts as you approach sunset. The scenery is the kind people struggle to describe in photos afterward: large valleys, streams and springs scattered across the mountainside, and the scale of the range itself. Two hours on horseback moves you through terrain that most visitors to Mendoza never see.
Halfway through the ride, you stop and taste a picada criolla: homemade appetizers, fresh bread, local cheese and salami from the post, paired with wine from Mendoza. It's the regional way of eating in the mountains, and it sits in the middle of your day rather than at the end. The experience includes personal insurance and a live guide who speaks English or Spanish, and pickup is arranged for you.
You'll leave with photographs and the memory of how a mountain family lives and works in this part of the Andes. The whole outing runs seven hours from start to finish, though most of that is the ride itself and the time at the post.
What’s included
- Personal insurance.
- alcoholic beverages (wine from Mendoza).
- snacks including homemade bread, cheese and salami.
