Pick your own trail and hike at the pace that suits you

Hiking in Bariloche is a guided activity where a mountain guide with over 10 years of local experience tailors the route, distance and technical difficulty to your fitness level and interests. The guide suggests trails through native forests, past viewpoints, and across terrain ranging from gentle walks to scrambles and glacier hikes within Nahuel Huapi National Park and the surrounding area. Lunch and hot drinks are included. You choose between a half-day, full-day or multi-day option at checkout.

The experience

You arrive in Bariloche with a free afternoon or a full day, and the guide meets you to figure out what you actually want to do. Instead of following a fixed itinerary, the guide asks about your fitness, your experience with mountains, and what you came to see: the native forest, the high viewpoints, the glaciers, the wildlife. From there, the two of you pick a trail that fits. That might be a short walk through beech and cypress forest, a moderate trek to a ridge with views across the lake, or a technical scramble with rope work if you have the skills and the appetite for it. The guide knows which routes are passable that day, which animals are moving through the area, and what the weather is doing up high.

The hike stays within Nahuel Huapi National Park or the surrounding mountains, and the guide carries lunch and a thermos of coffee or tea so you eat on the trail instead of rushing back. Eight hours gives you real time in the mountains (enough to climb, rest, look around, and talk about what you're seeing) rather than a quick loop and a drive home. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian, so the conversation happens in your language.

A moderate level of fitness is the baseline. The guide will not take you somewhere your body cannot go. If you have spinal or cardiovascular concerns, tell the guide before you start so they can adjust or suggest a different day. Public transport runs near the meeting point, so you don't need a rental car to get there.
