The experience
You leave Mendoza's center and drive thirty minutes into Luján de Cuyo, the heart of Argentina's Malbec country. The first stop is a small-production family winery where you tour the vineyard itself and taste three wines chosen to show what the property makes. A twenty-minute drive takes you to the second winery in Agrelo, an area that specializes in red grapes. There you walk through the vines and the cellar before tasting three more wines. The third winery is where lunch waits: a four-course meal (entrance, main, dessert, specialty coffee) served either inside the adobe house or in its courtyard, both surrounded by vineyards. Wine pairings are built into the menu to match the region's flavors.
The tour is conducted in Spanish, and the driver does not speak English. If you request English, staff at each winery can help translate the tastings and vineyard details, but the driver remains Spanish-speaking throughout the day. You return to central Mendoza after lunch, making the full outing six hours from start to finish. Hotel pickup is included. The vehicle is air-conditioned.

Top questions
What does a tasting at each winery actually involve?
At each of the three family wineries, you walk through the vineyard and tour the cellar or production area, then taste three wines the winery has selected. The tastings are designed to show the range of what that particular producer makes.
Where exactly is the lunch, and what's on the menu?
Lunch is served at the third winery in a 100-year-old adobe house or in its courtyard, depending on the day. The four-course menu includes an entrance, main course, dessert, and specialty coffee, with wines paired to complement each course.
Is the driver able to explain things in English?
The driver speaks Spanish only. If you request an English-language tour, the staff at each winery can help translate during the tastings and vineyard walks, but the driver will not speak English during the drive or transitions between stops.
How far is Luján de Cuyo from Mendoza, and how much time is spent driving?
The first winery is a thirty-minute drive from central Mendoza. Between the second and third winery there is another twenty-minute drive. The rest of the six hours is spent at the wineries and at lunch.
Can children come on this tour?
Children can ride in the vehicle and visit the wineries. Travelers under eighteen years old are not served alcoholic beverages, so they can taste grape juice or participate in the vineyard tours without the wine component.
