The experience
You get picked up at your resort in an air-conditioned van and driven to Seatons village, where you board a high-speed boat for an 8-minute ride to the sandbar. The water there is roughly 5 feet deep (shallow enough to stand comfortably the whole time), and the southern stingrays are free-roaming animals, not confined or trained. Once you're in the water, you feed them by hand, touch them and watch them move around you. The experience lasts about 60 minutes in the water, and the animals' behavior is unpredictable in the way wild animals are, which is what makes it authentic rather than a performance.
The whole outing, from pickup to drop-off, takes roughly three hours and includes the van ride, both boat transfers, your time in the water, and a 20-minute break back on shore where you can rinse off in fresh water, use the restroom and have a complimentary drink. A rashguard is provided to protect your skin. The guide stays with you throughout and shares local knowledge about Antigua and the stingrays themselves. Infants travel free and sit on a parent's lap. There's no age cutoff and no swimming skill required.
At the end, you receive a personalized certificate from the tour. A detail the operator notes is exclusive to their version. The boat ride back gives you time to decompress before the van returns you to your resort or port.
