Sea Scooter Snorkeling at Galleon Beach: Hands-Free Exploration
Steer a sea scooter through a living reef without the exhaustion of swimming
A sea scooter snorkeling activity at Galleon Beach and The Pillars of Hercules in which you pilot a motorized underwater scooter while a guide leads you through the reef, pointing out sea turtles, rays, tropical fish and other marine life. The scooter does the propulsion, so you conserve energy and stay focused on what's below. Pickup and drop-off are included; the tour runs two hours and suits swimmers and previous snorkelers aged eight and up.
The Experience
You walk into the water from the shore at Galleon Beach and take the controls of your own sea scooter—a handheld device that propels you forward at your own pace. Unlike a standard snorkeling trip where you kick the whole way, the scooter handles the work, which means you're not fighting fatigue and can actually look around. Your guide leads the group to The Pillars of Hercules, a natural rock formation nearby, and points out what's moving in the water as you pass: sea turtles (more common in afternoon sessions), rays gliding along the bottom, sea urchins, conch, hermit crabs, and schools of tropical fish in colors that don't photograph the way they look in person.
The whole outing takes two hours. You wear a life vest (mandatory), and all the gear—mask, snorkel, fins and the scooter itself—is provided. A guide in English leads the group and narrates the reef as you move through it. Pickup and drop-off from your hotel are included, and the tour departs as a shared group. Bring a moderate level of fitness and the ability to swim or prior snorkeling experience; the weight limit is 300 pounds.
Afternoon departures offer better odds of seeing turtles, though morning sessions spot them too. This is a shore-based activity—no boat involved, just you in the water with the scooter doing the heavy lifting.

Can I do this snorkeling tour if I've never snorkeled before?
You must be able to swim or have snorkeled previously. If you meet that requirement and have moderate fitness, the sea scooter handles propulsion so you can focus on the marine life instead of the mechanics of staying afloat.
What marine animals will I see at Galleon Beach and The Pillars of Hercules?
Sea turtles, rays, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, conch, hermit crabs and tropical fish are common. Turtle sightings are more frequent in afternoon sessions, though morning departures see them as well.
How does the sea scooter work and will I get tired using it?
The scooter is motorized—you steer it and control your speed by pushing a button, so it propels you instead of your legs doing the work. This means you expend far less energy than traditional snorkeling, letting you stay in the water longer and focus on what you're seeing.
What's included in the pickup, and where does it start?
Shared hotel pickup and drop-off are included in the price. The tour itself begins at Galleon Beach, where you walk into the water from the shore.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Children are welcome from age eight, provided they can swim or have snorkeled before and meet the moderate fitness requirement. A life vest is mandatory for all participants.
