The experience
How do you get to a holy mountain without a car of your own? Your guide picks you up from your hotel and drives a 4x4 up the steep terrain to 2,416 meters. From there, you choose: ride the rest of the way or hike to the summit. If you hike, your guide tailors the route to your fitness and schedule, anywhere from one hour to four hours depending on what you want. Winter and spring sometimes force a full hike when snow or mud blocks the vehicle, but your guide brings the gear and knows the safe way up.
At the summit, the views open across the surrounding landscape, and you'll see Islamic monuments that mark the mountain's spiritual importance. Your guide explains the Bektashi sect (a Sufi Muslim tradition with deep roots here), and the cultural and religious history woven into the place. This is not a rushed stop. You have time to take in the atmosphere and ask questions.
After the mountain, you head to Bogove Waterfall to swim and rest. The cool water is a natural reward after the climb, and it's a good place to photograph the landscape. A picnic lunch is included, and bottled water keeps you hydrated through the day. The tour also stops in Polican, a small town built during the communist era to manufacture weapons. Your guide walks you through its history and how people live there now. Hotel pickup and all fees are covered.
