The experience

The boat leaves An Thoi Port at dawn after a hotel pickup and drive through the island. Breakfast waits on board, and you'll watch the sunrise from the water while the captain runs a quick training session on how to fish like a Phu Quoc local: the equipment, the bait, the technique. Then you cast your line into the fishing grounds where snappers, groupers, barracuda, cobia, GT and sweetslip fish run. You're not watching someone else fish. You're doing it, with the tools and the know-how the locals use.

Lunch comes at noon, cooked from your catch or prepared fresh on board. You choose whether to eat what you've reeled in or share plates with the rest of the small group. By 1:30 p.m. the boat heads back to An Thoi Port and your hotel, ending around mid-afternoon. The whole day runs eight to ten hours from pickup to drop-off.
