Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Hue countryside and culture
- Visit Ancient Covered Bridge
- Tour Rice Museum and watch demonstration
- Explore Bunker Hill and view Perfume River
- Participate in incense and conical hat making
- Enjoy traditional green tea with locals
- Photo stop at Tiger and Elephant Arena
- Tour Thien Mu Pagoda
- Visit village market
The Experience
The day starts with pickup and a ride out to the ancient Thanh Toan Bridge, a covered structure surrounded by canals and rice paddies where you can walk and photograph the landscape. From there the motorbike takes you to the Rice Museum, where a demonstration shows how rice is ploughed, harvested, winnowed and milled—you get hands-on time learning to plough yourself. The route then passes Bunker Hill, a remote site with American and French bunkers overlooking the Perfume River, before stopping at the incense-making village where you watch artisans make incense sticks and then craft your own conical hat alongside local women, sipping fresh green tea afterward.
A photo stop at the Tiger and Elephant Arena marks where imperial competitions once took place. The tour ends at Thien Mu Pagoda, Hue's most famous temple complex, where you walk the grounds with your guide. Throughout the ride your driver handles the motorbike while you take in the countryside; the pace is steady and the stops are built in so you're not rushing between them. All entrance fees, the guide, helmets, water and insurance are included, so there's nothing to arrange once you're on the bike.

Is this one for you?You ride as a passenger, so the motorbike and route are handled for you—this suits travelers who want to see the countryside without navigating themselves. The hands-on stops (making the hat, ploughing rice, sipping tea with a family) mean you're not just observing; you're learning by doing, which is what sets this tour apart from a standard sightseeing ride.

What is Thien Mu Pagoda and why is it on this tour?
Thien Mu Pagoda is the most famous temple complex in Hue, a significant spiritual and architectural landmark. It's the final stop on the tour, giving you time to walk the grounds with your guide and understand its place in the city's religious and cultural history.
Can I actually make the conical hat myself, or is it just a demonstration?
You make the hat yourself alongside local women in the incense-making village. After the demonstration, you participate in crafting it and keep it as a souvenir.
What does the rice museum demonstration involve?
The Rice Museum shows traditional techniques for ploughing, harvesting, winnowing and making rice flour. You get hands-on time learning to plough, so it's not just watching—you're doing the work.
Is this tour private or shared with other travelers?
This is a private tour: you ride on the motorbike with a professional driver, and the guide is assigned to your group. The stops and timing are yours alone.
What's included in the price, and what should I budget for separately?
The price includes private transportation, the driver, helmets, petrol, all entrance fees, a bottled water, the English-speaking guide and insurance. Tips for the driver and guide are optional and separate.
How physically demanding is riding a motorbike for four hours?
The tour is suitable for all fitness levels. You're a passenger on the motorbike, not driving it, so the physical demand comes from sitting and the hands-on activities at stops like ploughing and hat-making. The tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
