The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel in Hue, Da Nang, or Hoi An, then the motorbike leaves the city streets for back roads that most tourists never see. Your first stop is Thanh Toan Bridge, an 18th-century wooden structure surrounded by rural village life where you walk through a traditional market and visit the Rice Museum to learn how farmers still work by hand. From there the route continues deeper into countryside, passing through rice fields and quiet villages before reaching An Bang Cemetery, known as the "City of Ghosts", where your guide explains ancestor worship traditions and the meaning of the colorful tomb architecture.

The inland section moves through buffalo fields and fishing villages toward Tam Giang Lagoon, Southeast Asia's largest lagoon system, where traditional fishermen use ancient methods. You'll stop at Lap An Lagoon between turquoise water and the Bach Ma mountains, visit oyster farms, and meet local workers on the water. A detour inland takes you to Suoi Mo Waterfall, where you can swim in crystal-clear pools surrounded by jungle, then the route returns to the coast at Lang Co Beach for a local lunch with fresh seafood and ocean views. This is where the real climb begins.

Leaving Lang Co, the road climbs to the Hai Van Pass: 21 kilometers of dramatic curves made famous by the Top Gear Vietnam Special. At the summit you visit Hai Van Quan Gate, an 18th-century fortress built in 1826, and explore French and American bunkers that reveal the pass's strategic military history. The panoramic viewpoints along the way are the stops for photos and a traditional Vietnamese coffee while the mountains and ocean spread below. Your final sightseeing stop is Linh Ung Pagoda on the Son Tra Peninsula, home to a 67-meter Lady Buddha statue overlooking Da Nang Bay and the East Sea. Can I ride my own motorbike or do I have to ride as a passenger?

You choose at booking: self-ride your own motorbike with the guide leading, or ride as a passenger on the guide's bike. Both options follow the same route and stops. Solo travelers choosing self-ride pay an additional US$16 fee for the motorbike and fuel. There's no extra charge for the pillion passenger option.
