The Experience

The ride starts early from Ho Chi Minh City with a 40 km first day to Dalat, climbing into pine forests and colonial-era villas left from the French hill station. You'll pass flower gardens and the cream-colored art deco villa that once belonged to Vietnam's last emperor, Bao Dai. From there the route turns downhill—nearly 1,500 meters over the next two days—through tea plantations and villages to the coast at Nha Trang, where you stop at Po Nagar Cham Towers, 13th-century brick temples built as Hindu shrines on a hilltop overlooking the beach.

The middle stretch runs north along the coast through Tuy Hoa and Qui Nhon on roads that avoid the main highway. You'll ride past shrimp farms and fishing villages, stop at Dai Lanh beach for lunch and a swim, and pass through small Ba Na ethnic settlements where children run alongside to say hello. The itinerary includes a visit to the My Lai massacre memorial and museum near Quang Ngai, a 2 km climb to Thien An Mountain for views of the surrounding countryside, and a working pagoda. An air-conditioned vehicle follows the group and carries bikes when needed, so you can rest or skip a section without falling behind.

The final two days reach Hoi An, a 16th-century trading port now a living museum of wooden-fronted merchant houses, the Japanese-covered bridge and a night market. From there you ride 45 km to My Son Sanctuary, a complex of Cham temples from the 9th–13th centuries set in a valley. Your guide spends an hour explaining the history of the Cham people and the kingdom that once ruled central Vietnam. Meals throughout are local seafood and regional dishes; water, snacks and fruit are provided during riding days.
