You start the morning heading out of Hanoi toward the red river delta on the back of a vintage Vespa, your guide navigating small alleys through rice paddies and past villages most visitors never see. The ride takes you past Long Bien Bridge, the century-old structure that spans the Red River, and into countryside where you'll stop at a 1,400-year-old temple and walk through fields of green. The pace is slow enough to absorb the landscape — the smell of earth and growing rice, the sound of the road narrowing into village paths — and your guide explains what you're passing: how the rice culture works, why families live where they do, what the seasons mean for the people who farm here.

By mid-morning you've reached Co Loa, the ancient capital of Vietnam dating back to 257 BC, and then a family farm in the middle of the fields where you meet the owners, see how they grow tropical fruits, and taste what they harvest that day. The ride back to Hanoi follows the red river bank on a different route, and after lunch (included) you have time to rest before the afternoon leg. The second half of the day takes you through the city's quieter corners: past the botanical garden and narrow houses, to Huu Hiep Lake where a US B52 bomber was shot down in 1972, then to West Lake — one of Hanoi's largest — where you can see the city from above. You stop at the monument to John McCain near Truc Bach Lake, ride past the train tracks where locals live in houses just centimeters from the rails, and visit An Duong market to see how the city buys and sells its daily food.

The final stretch includes a visit to a farming village on a red river island, a kumquat farm (the trees are traditional Tet gifts symbolizing luck and prosperity), and time to sit down with Vietnamese egg coffee — Hanoi's famous version — before heading back to Long Bien Bridge as the day closes.
