The Experience

The day starts with pickup at your Hanoi hotel and a drive to Tuan Chau Harbor in Halong City, with a rest stop along the way. Once on board the cruise ship, you get a safety briefing and then head into the Bo Hon archipelago. The limestone karsts rise around you as the boat moves through the emerald water toward the first stop: Surprise Cave, where you walk inside and see the chamber open to the sky.

After the cave, you get into a kayak or bamboo boat and paddle through Luon Cave's narrow passages and lagoons — the water is still enough to see the rock face reflected in it. The guide navigates; you paddle at your own pace. Back on the ship, you have afternoon tea while cruising toward Titov Island, where you can walk the sandy beach and climb to the viewpoint if you want the panoramic view of the bay, or stay on deck and watch the water. Lunch — Vietnamese cuisine — is served on board, and there is time for sunbathing between stops.
