The Experience
Hotel pickup happens between 8:15 and 8:40 in the Hanoi Old Quarter or near the Opera House, then a 2.5-hour drive on the expressway takes you to Ha Long Bay, arriving around 11:50. The modern air-conditioned bus has WiFi and a mineral water bottle for the ride. Once aboard the luxury cruise, lunch arrives—seafood and traditional Vietnamese dishes, with vegetarian options—while you watch Huong Islet, Fight Cock Islet and thousands of limestone formations drift past.
Surprise Cave comes first. It's the largest cave in Ha Long Bay, spanning more than 12,000 square meters and located about 14 kilometers from the wharf. After exploring inside, you choose your next move: kayak for 30 minutes to discover Luon Cave and spot monkeys, or relax on a sampan boat while a local rows you through. Either way, the cave opens from the water, and the paddle or drift takes you past the karst walls at their own pace.
Titop Island is next. A 15-minute climb to the summit gives you a panoramic view of the entire bay; most of the island visit runs 45 minutes. You can swim in the fresh water, sunbathe or just stand at the top and breathe. Back on the cruise, a sunset party unfolds with snacks, red wine and tea as the boat heads back to Tuan Chau Harbour—almost an hour's drift. Your driver and guide then drive you back to your Hanoi hotel, arriving around 8 or 8:30 p.m.
