You’ll get to taste award-winning Vietnamese rum, learn how it’s crafted from local sugarcane, and enjoy a relaxed tour with real stories and flavors. Perfect if you want something authentic and hands-on.
The first thing that hit me when I stepped inside the Sampan distillery was the faint, sweet scent of sugarcane—almost like warm molasses in the air. Our guide, Linh, handed us a cocktail right at the door. It was light, with a little zing from the fresh lime, and honestly, I kept sipping it as we wandered through the place. The distillery isn’t huge, but you can tell every corner is used for something—there’s always someone moving barrels or checking gauges.
Linh walked us through each step, starting with how local farmers bring in the cane early in the morning. She pointed out the old press they still use, and you could hear it creaking away in the background. There’s something about seeing all that happen right in front of you—it makes you appreciate every drop. The best part? Tasting three different rums at their tiny bar, just as a rainstorm started tapping on the tin roof. Each one had its own kick; my favorite was the white rum, which won a medal in San Francisco. Linh said it’s the only Vietnamese rum to ever win there. It felt special to try it where it’s actually made.
Kids are welcome! Small children can use strollers, and service animals are allowed. Just note, the tasting is for adults.
