experience

What’s the experience like?

The air felt cooler as we left the city behind, winding through pine forests and small villages. Our first stop—Elephant Waterfall—hit me with its thunderous roar before I even saw it. The spray was everywhere, and if you get close enough, you’ll feel it on your face. There’s this narrow path down to the base—watch your step, it gets slippery—and right next to the falls is Wind Cave. It’s got a tight entrance wedged between rocks, but inside? It opens up and you can actually hear the wind rushing through. Our guide, Minh, joked that locals come here just to cool off on hot days.

Pongour Waterfall was next. Honestly, I’d never seen anything like it—wide and layered over sandstone steps, surrounded by thick forest that smelled faintly of wet earth and wildflowers. We arrived mid-morning when the sun hit the water just right; everything sparkled for a minute or two before clouds rolled in. Minh shared a bit about how this spot is considered the most majestic in the Central Highlands—locals picnic here on weekends but we had it mostly to ourselves.

We stopped at a coffee plantation after lunch (the weasel coffee place). You’ll spot wild weasels darting around if you’re lucky—they eat only the ripest beans, which are collected later for roasting. The smell of fresh beans roasting is everywhere. I tried a cup—can’t say it tasted like any coffee back home! Afterward, we visited Linh An Pagoda to see Lady Budha standing tall at 70 meters and the giant Happy Buddha statue tucked behind the main hall. Inside, three huge Buddha statues represent past, present, and future—it’s peaceful there; incense hangs in the air.
