The Experience

Most visitors to Cu Chi Tunnels end up in the crowded main section with tour buses lined up outside. This tour takes you to Ben Duoc instead — the quieter part where you actually feel the weight of the tunnels instead of just walking through them. A VIP vehicle picks you up from your hotel in District 1, 3, or 4 around 8am, and it's just you and up to nine other people in the car. The drive takes about two hours, which gives you time to ask your English-speaking guide questions without shouting over a group of forty.

Once you're at the tunnels, you crawl through the actual network — not a reconstructed tourist version, but sections the Viet Cong soldiers used during the war. Your guide points out the hidden bunkers, the kitchens built underground, the living quarters where people spent weeks without seeing daylight. There are booby traps on display, weapons made from scrap metal and American materials, and the kind of detail that makes you understand how they survived down there. If you want to, you can pay extra to shoot at a range on site — most people skip it, but it's there. The whole exploration takes a couple of hours, and you're moving slowly enough to actually absorb what you're looking at.

After you come back up, there's lunch at a local restaurant — real Vietnamese dishes, not the watered-down version. They have a vegan option if you need it.
