The experience
The day starts with a 45-minute minivan ride from Hoi An to a village near My Son sanctuary, where you cross the Thu Bon River by local ferry before the cycling begins. From there, the 54km route takes you across immense rice fields where Vietnamese farmers in traditional conical hats still cultivate the land using methods passed down for hundreds of years. You'll pass water buffalo, bamboo and wood bridges (available in summer), and the old American air base, stopping at a local countryside market where life moves at a pace far from the city.
The tour centers on meeting people. A local family invites you into their traditional wooden home to share tea and talk about village life and customs. You'll visit a weaving village to learn colonial-era linen techniques, and discover how incense is made by hand. Because the stops shift depending on what's happening in the villages that day (a market in full swing, farmers working a particular field, a family available to welcome visitors), no two tours follow exactly the same path. That unpredictability is the point: it keeps you in direct contact with the Vietnamese countryside rather than moving through a fixed checklist.
The full day runs 10 hours door to door. You get a bicycle and helmet, bottled water throughout, lunch, and an English or French-speaking guide. The heat can make cycling harder from May through August, but the rest of the year the terrain is relatively easy. A minimum of two guests is required to run the tour. If you're traveling alone, the operator can connect you with another group. Children from age 10 are welcome.

Is this one for you? This is a shared group tour with a fixed 8am departure and 6pm return, so it suits travelers who want to cycle through authentic countryside but prefer not to navigate the route alone. The stops shift based on village activities rather than a set itinerary, which means you meet real people and see genuine daily life, but it also means the exact experience varies from day to day.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and French.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (10 to 12 years). Children under 10 can't be included in the booking.
What's the actual cycling like on this tour?
The 54km route is spread across 10 hours with stops for villages, homes, markets and crafts, so you're not pedaling continuously. The terrain is flat rice fields and countryside roads, and the pace is set by the group and guide rather than speed. Moderate fitness is needed because of the distance and the heat, especially in summer months.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to the starting point?
The tour includes a 45-minute minivan transfer from Hoi An to the village where cycling begins, and the return journey is included as well. You'll need to arrange your own way to meet the minivan at the departure point in Hoi An. Hotel pickup is not part of this tour.
What are the weaving villages actually doing when we visit?
The weaving villages teach traditional methods that date back to colonial times, including linen weaving. You'll see how the work is done and learn the techniques, but the specific activities depend on what the villagers are working on that day. The tour is designed around real village life rather than a performance for tourists.
Can I visit My Son Temple as part of this tour?
My Son Temple is not included in the standard tour, but it's available as an optional add-on for $8 per person. The sanctuary sits near the village where the bike tour starts, so the timing works if you want to include it.
What happens if the weather is too hot or I'm not fit enough?
The tour is recommended for people in good physical condition with at least moderate fitness. May through August heat can make cycling more challenging, though the rest of the year conditions are easier. If you have concerns about your fitness level or any health conditions, contact the operator before booking to discuss whether the tour suits you.
