The experience
The boat itself is the base: a luxury cruise with modern facilities, a sundeck, restaurant and en-suite cabins with ocean views. You arrive at Tuan Chau International Port, transfer by speedboat to the cruise, and settle into your private balcony cabin. The first afternoon takes you to Ba Trai Dao beach (also called Calves Head Island or Tra Bau Island) in Lan Ha Bay, where you kayak through the limestone formations and swim in the bay's water. The route runs fewer travelers than the standard Ha Long Bay circuit, so the karst landscape stays quieter.
Evening on day one is unscheduled time on the sundeck to watch the sunset, join the sunset party, or attend a cooking class where you learn to make traditional Vietnamese spring rolls. Card games, chess, karaoke and squid fishing run on the boat if you want them. Massage service is also available. You sleep in your cabin overnight.
Day two begins at 6:30am with tai chi on the sundeck (or earlier if you want to photograph dawn). After breakfast, a car takes you to either Trung Trang Cave or Hoa Cuong Cave. Trung Trang sits in a 300-hectare valley on Cat Ba Island and runs 300 meters through the mountain, carved by nature over more than 2,000 years. The stalactites form shapes that shift with the light. Hoa Cuong Cave, also called Marble Cave, has iridescent formations and remains largely untouched. The cruise sails back to harbor while you eat lunch.
Is this one for you?Book with Hanoi transfers if you're arriving by air and don't want to arrange ground transport to the port. The cruise alone is the better choice if you're already in Ha Long Bay or have your own way to Tuan Chau.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (5 to 7 years); Infant (under 5).
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the difference between kayaking on this cruise and just swimming in the bay?
Kayaking lets you paddle into the narrow channels between the limestone karst mountains and explore the smaller inlets the larger boats cannot reach. Swimming happens at the same stops, but the kayak gives you the freedom to move through the landscape under your own power.
What exactly is Trung Trang Cave, and is it worth the visit on day two?
Trung Trang Cave is a 300-meter passage carved through a mountain in the Trung Trang Valley on Cat Ba Island, formed over more than 2,000 years. The stalactites hang in varied shapes throughout the cave. It sits inside a 300-hectare valley at the heart of Cat Ba National Park, so the cave visit combines the underground formations with the larger landscape around it.
Is the cooking class mandatory, or can I skip it and relax instead?
The cooking class runs during free time on the first evening, so you choose whether to attend. You can join the class to learn how to make Vietnamese spring rolls, or spend the time on the sundeck, at the massage service, or playing games on the boat.
What meals are included over the two days?
Lunch and dinner are included on day one (lunch buffet, dinner set menu), and breakfast and lunch buffet on day two. Drinks ordered separately are extra.
Can I bring a vegan diet, or do I need to eat what the boat serves?
The operator provides a separate vegan menu if you request it in advance. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, let them know when you book so they can prepare accordingly.
