The Experience
The tour runs 6 to 9 hours depending on how many wineries you visit and how long you linger at each one. You start and finish in Newberg, a town of 2,500 that gave its name to the Dundee Hills AVA, one of the world's most recognized Pinot Noir regions. Your guide picks you up, handles all driving, and stays with you through tastings and lunch—this is not a drop-off service but a built itinerary tailored to what you want to explore. Tastings are included in the tour cost, and you get a bottle of water for the day.
The wineries are small and family-owned. Granville sits in the Dundee Hills with what the operator calls the best view in the valley; Winderlea has a glass-enclosed tasting room and back deck overlooking the vineyards, with wines from biodynamically farmed sites. Anderson Family Wines, operating since the 1990s, offers a 270-degree view of the valley and often includes a short vineyard walk, barrel room tour, and barrel tasting. A fourth option—one of the highest-rated in the valley—is available if you want a slower pace or more tastings. Your guide chooses the stops and the order based on what you tell them you want to taste.
Lunch happens at one of the valley's celebrated spots—the operator mentions a cult sandwich shop known for sandwiches, pizzas, salads and pastries, plus a market for browsing. Your guide joins you there. An optional add-on is Bergstrom, a winery offering a private tasting in their Ekelon room with chef-created food bites paired to each glass; this is at your expense and must be arranged in advance.
