Walk a working mango farm and taste what regenerative farming grows

A two-hour guided farm tour on Maui's west side where you walk through 20 varieties of organic mango, papaya, pineapple, starfruit and seasonal fruit, tasting whatever is ripe that day. The farm uses regenerative permaculture and no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. A live guide in English or German explains the difference between traditional and regenerative agriculture as you move through the fields, with ocean and mountain views framing the route.

The Experience

You arrive at a shaded trellis covered with a massive passionfruit vine, where the guide serves a welcome drink and spends 15 to 20 minutes laying out Hawaiian agricultural history and the core difference between conventional farming and regenerative permaculture. This sets up what you're about to walk through—not a standard orchard, but a working model of how agroforestry and permaculture can coexist on the same land.

The walking tour itself takes 45 to 60 minutes and moves through pineapple, papaya, Surinam cherries, figs, starfruit, banana and mango in succession. Whenever fruit is ripe and ready, you taste it straight from the plant. The farm grows 20 different mango varieties that ripen at different times of year, so what you taste depends on the season—mango season runs late May through early November, but other organic fruit is available year-round. As you walk, the guide points out the best spots for photos: ocean views on one side, mountains on the other.

Back in the welcome area, you're served a plate of seasonal fruit to taste at your own pace. After that, the time is yours to explore the grounds further or capture that sunset photo before you leave.

Is this one for you?The walk is steady but not strenuous, and the whole experience runs two hours—a good fit for a free afternoon or a morning before other plans. If you want to understand how food actually grows instead of just tasting it, the guide's explanation of regenerative farming and permaculture makes that the point of the visit, not an add-on.

Top questions

What's the difference between the mangoes I'll taste on this tour and the ones at a grocery store?

The farm grows 20 varieties of organic mango using regenerative permaculture and no chemical fertilizers or pesticides—a method the guide explains during the tour. The mangoes are picked ripe and tasted fresh on the farm, not harvested early for shipping.

Will there definitely be mangoes to taste when I visit?

Mango season on Maui runs from late May through early November, so mangoes are available during that window. Outside mango season, the farm has other organic fruit ripe and ready to taste—papaya, pineapple, starfruit, figs and Surinam cherries rotate through the year.

How much walking is involved in this tour?

The farm walk takes 45 to 60 minutes and moves through different sections of the property at a steady pace. The terrain is farmland with ocean and mountain views, and the guide leads the route. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller.

What does the guide teach about regenerative farming?

The guide opens with a 15 to 20 minute overview of Hawaiian agricultural history and explains how regenerative permaculture and agroforestry differ from traditional farming methods. As you walk through the fields, the guide points out how these practices work on the actual farm.

Is this tour suitable for someone visiting Maui for the first time?

Yes. The tour combines a working farm walk with an introduction to Hawaiian agriculture and regenerative farming practices, so it works whether you're new to Maui or returning. Children from age 1 are welcome, and the pace suits all fitness levels.
