The experience
What makes this different from a hiking tour is that you're not walking to the waterfall. You're descending into it. Wild Sky takes you to canyons and waterfalls that have no trail access. The only way in is through canyoneering. You'll use rappelling equipment to lower yourself down the falls themselves, traverse narrow canyon passages, and work on downclimbing techniques that let you move safely through vertical terrain. The eight-hour adventure is led by an International Canyoning Academy-certified Swiftwater Canyoning Guide who tailors the route and pacing to your skill level, whether you're a first-timer or already comfortable on rock.
All technical gear comes with you: SELAND canyoning wetsuits, harnesses, ropes, helmets and the safety equipment needed for swiftwater canyoning. You don't bring your own or rent separately. The guide handles safety checks and instruction throughout the day, so you focus on the movement and the canyon itself. Pickup is included, and the guide speaks English or Spanish depending on your preference.
The canyons Wild Sky runs are in the mountains just outside Seattle and are among the best swiftwater canyons in the region. Because access is technical-only, you won't cross other hikers or tour groups. The day demands moderate fitness and comfort with heights and water, but the guide adjusts the difficulty to match your group.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly is canyoneering and how is it different from rock climbing or hiking?
Canyoneering combines rappelling, downclimbing, and water navigation to move through canyons. Unlike rock climbing, which focuses on ascending vertical rock, canyoneering is about descending safely through canyon systems using ropes and technical skills. Unlike hiking, it reaches places with no trail. You move vertically down waterfalls and through narrow passages that only exist inside the canyon itself.
Do I need climbing or canyoneering experience to join?
No. Wild Sky tailors each trip for beginners through experienced adventurers. The guide provides patient, professional instruction throughout the eight hours, so you learn the skills as you go. You do need moderate physical fitness and comfort being in water and at heights.
What waterfalls and canyons will we actually descend?
Wild Sky runs several swiftwater canyons in the mountains near Seattle, all accessible only through canyoneering routes. The specific canyon depends on conditions, water flow, and your group's skill level. The guide selects the best option for the day and your experience.
What happens if I'm not comfortable with a particular rappel or section?
The guide assesses your comfort and skill throughout the day and can adjust the route or the difficulty of individual sections. Because the trips are tailored to your level, you're not forced into terrain beyond what you're ready for.
Is the eight-hour day mostly rappelling, or does it include other movement?
The day includes rappelling down waterfalls, traversing canyon passages on foot and in water, and practicing downclimbing: moving safely down rock faces without ropes. The mix depends on the canyon and the group's pace, but you're moving through the canyon system the entire time, not sitting and watching.
