Sunset Sail Fort Myers Beach: 6-Guest Sailboat in the Gulf
Raise the sails and watch the sun slip into the Gulf on your own terms
A sunset sail aboard a 38-foot sailboat departing from Salty Sam's Marina in Fort Myers, with a maximum of six guests, takes you into the Gulf of Mexico for two and a half hours as the day turns to night. You motor out of Matanzas Pass, raise the sails once in open water, and search for wildlife while tropical music plays. The boat returns roughly 30 minutes after sunset. Bring your own beverages and snacks (no glass or red wine). Shoes come off before boarding and are locked away. Children of any age count as full-price guests and count toward the six-person limit.

The experience
Salty Sam's Marina sits on Fort Myers Beach with abundant free parking and two restaurants on-site, so you're not hunting for a lot or paying extra to leave your car. The boat leaves the channel into the Gulf of Mexico, and once the sails go up, the work is done. You sit back while the captain handles the wind and the route takes you past the shores of Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island. The tropical music and the search for dolphins or other wildlife fill the time between the raise and the sunset itself.
Two licensed captains, a husband-and-wife team who have been sailing these waters since 2009, run the boat and make all weather calls on the day of the sail. The restroom is on board, and the intimate group size means no jostling for space or waiting for a turn at the rail. Because you bring your own drinks and snacks, you control what you're holding when the light turns gold: beer and spirits are fine, but no glass stemware, no red wine, and nothing that stains. Shoes stay in a locked box below deck.
The sail returns to Salty Sam's Marina roughly 30 minutes after sunset, so you're back on solid ground while the day is still turning to night. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure if you book through the operator's website. Third-party bookings carry a different policy. Beach traffic in high-volume times can add over an hour to drive time, and the boat departs on schedule regardless: no refunds for no-shows.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I bring alcohol on the sunset sail?
Yes, you can bring beer, wine and spirits, but no glass stemware, no red wine and no items that stain. The BYOB setup lets you choose what you want to drink during the sail.
What happens if the weather turns bad on the day of my sail?
The captain makes all weather-related decisions on the day of departure and takes safety very seriously. The operator cannot guarantee perfect weather or cloudless sunsets, and you assume the risks of sailing conditions when you book.
How many people can fit on the sailboat?
The maximum is six guests total, and children of any age count as full-price passengers toward that limit. The small group size keeps the atmosphere relaxed and intimate.
What do I need to do before I board?
Shoes must be removed before boarding and are stored in a locked box for the duration of the sail. This is non-negotiable. You'll also sign a liability waiver and contractual assumption of risks before departure. Children six years old and younger must wear a provided PFD vest.
Is there parking at Salty Sam's Marina?
Yes, abundant free parking is available at the marina, and two highly rated restaurants are on-site if you want to eat before or after the sail.
