You’ll share laughs with fellow travelers as dolphins surface near your tiki boat, sip your favorite drink chilled in an onboard cooler, and watch Fort Myers’ sky turn gold at sunset—all with a friendly local captain guiding you through hidden corners of these waterways. It’s casual, warm, and leaves you with more than just photos.
"Did you see that fin?" someone shouted from the other side of the Tiki Pub just as I was pouring a splash of rum into my plastic cup. Honestly, I almost missed it—the dolphin popped up so quick, all silver and smooth in the last bit of sunlight. The boat rocked a little and everyone leaned over the rail, phones out, but then we just stood there for a second watching. It smelled like sunscreen and saltwater and whatever someone brought for snacks (pretzels? Maybe chips?).
Our captain—her name was Jess—kept things relaxed but somehow knew exactly when to slow down or point out something cool along the Fort Myers Beach waterways. She joked about how locals can tell what kind of fish are jumping just by the sound they make hitting the water. Not sure if she was serious but it made us laugh anyway. A couple folks started up some party game in the back; I didn’t join but their laughter drifted over while I tried to catch another glimpse of dolphins. The sun was dropping fast behind Sanibel Island, turning everything gold and pink for maybe ten minutes—felt longer though.
I’d never been on a BYOB sunset cruise before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect (besides maybe spilling my drink). Turns out there’s an ice-filled cooler waiting when you board, so your drinks actually stay cold even after an hour in Florida heat. There were only about 20 of us on board—enough for random conversations but not so many you feel lost in a crowd. At one point someone shared their chips with me; we talked about where everyone was from and how none of us could pronounce “Ostego Bay” right the first time. Jess grinned every time someone tried.
I still think about that view—the light on the water, everyone quietly watching as the sky faded out. It wasn’t perfect or fancy or anything like that, but honestly that’s what made it good.
Your evening includes an ice-filled cooler ready for any drinks you bring along (BYOB style), complimentary bottled water throughout the trip, plus life jackets available for everyone on board before heading back to shore at Fort Myers Beach marina.
